Nav-CARE Support

A little extra connection and support can make a meaningful difference.

Navigating life as an older adult can sometimes feel overwhelming or isolating, especially when living independently or managing changing needs of yourself or others. Nav-CARE connects older adults with trained volunteers who offer companionship, encouragement, and practical support along the way.

The goal is simple: to help you feel heard, connected, and supported while continuing to live as independently as possible.

What is a Nav-CARE Volunteer?

Nav-CARE volunteers are trained community members who take the time to get to know you and understand what matters most in your life.

Through regular visits and conversations, your volunteer can:

  • Provide friendly companionship and a listening ear

  • Take time to understand your goals, needs, and priorities

  • Help you identify what is most important to you

  • Offer encouragement as you navigate changes or challenges

  • Help you explore community programs and resources

  • Connect you with health, social, and community services when needed

  • Help you feel more connected to your community and less alone

Support Built Around You

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to Nav-CARE. Your visits are shaped around you, your needs, and what you would find most helpful.

Sometimes that may mean having someone to sit and talk with. Other times, you might want help finding a community program, understanding what resources are available, or thinking through your goals and next steps.

Nav-CARE volunteers do not provide medical care or counselling. Instead, they offer a consistent, compassionate presence and help connect you with additional support when needed.

What to Expect

Your Nav-CARE volunteer will typically visit every 2–4 weeks, with visits lasting approximately 1–2 hours. The program is designed to build an ongoing, trusting relationship, with volunteers generally committing to supporting participants for six months or longer.

You Don’t Have to Navigate Everything Alone

Sometimes having someone who will listen, check in, and help you find the right resources can make everyday challenges feel a little more manageable.
